The UK Government has announced a clear intent to include nuclear power as part of the future energy mix therefore the industry has seen the need to speed up decommissioning of old power stations to make way for the new generation. Shakespeare has supplied the nuclear industry and its supply chain for many years with a variety of high integrity castings, examples of which are shown below.
This project involved the development and manufacture of high-integrity Type 60 wall liners (BSW93) castings to be used in control room(s) of radioactive and/or hazardous operations in the Nuclear industry. This is a regular, repeatable, multiple-batch quantity contract for Shakespeare, as detailed below.

During this project, Shakespeare liaised in the rewrite and development of a Level 3 PCN approved procedure/specification, in conjunction with the Nuclear client, and their approved 1st Tier supplier as there was no manufacturing/testing specification in place for the Ultrasonic testing of cast iron materials in such applications. The Nuclear window box ductile cast iron castings, project quality plan and documentation pack was signed off by the clients personnel before dispatch.
